SING YOUR WIATA FOREVER, WHIO
Mixed media, 2450mm (H) x 1200mm (W) x 50mm (D), NFS

A tribute to the endangered blue duck (Whio) which is endemic to New Zealand.
Finalist in the 2016 Fieldays No. 8 Wire Art Award (held by ArtsPost in conjunction with the Waikato Museum).

No. 8 wire is renowned for its toughness but I strived to achieve a delicacy in my work to both mirror the beauty of a feather and the vulnerability of the Whio. I am enchanted by this creature's distinctive plumage, the way they care for their young, the male's distinctive whistle and their rare ability to live in fast-flowing water.

My piece is dedicated to the many people working tirelessly to save this intriguing and beautiful bird.
